The Town of Bishop, Oconee County, Georgia, was incorporated in 1890.  In the years before its incorporation, the town existed as a small crossroads community in the Piedmont region of northeast Georgia.  As the railroad made its way into this area and as cotton became king, the town grew and prospered.  Bishop reached its peak, or heyday, in 1920s, when it had a population of about 300, with many new homes, businesses, churches, schools, and social institutions.  Like many other small towns, Bishop suffered through the hard times of the depression and world wars.  But the enduring spirit of the people has kept Bishop an active, viable community.
